Joint Maintenance Support
Cartilage is a supportive, moderately firm, elastic tissue. Three distinct types are distinguished. They are hyaline or vitreous cartilage, collagen fibrous cartilage or fibrocartilage and elastic cartilage or elastic cartilage.
At the ends of bones we find what is called hyaline or glass cartilage. This type of cartilage is also found in the bronchi, trachea and nose.
These glass cartilages are highly wear-resistant yet flexible.
They are structurally divided into cells (chondrocytes) and an amorphous matrix surrounding them. The amorphous matrix is interwoven with collagen and elastin fibres and contains proteoglycans, hyaluronic acid and glycoproteins.
The proteoglycans include aggrecan, which is responsible for water retention in the joint amorphous material. Aggrecan includes the so-called glucosamine glycans (GAGs), chondroitin sulphate and keratan sulphate. Its central backbone is hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid), to which these GAGs are attached by a central protein. *
The nutrient turnover of cartilage is limited due to its low vascularity, so its regeneration is a slower process. *
Scitec Arthroxon Plus capsule form is now hitting store shelves with a revamped formula.
The formula contains chondroitin sulphate, glucosamine sulphate and ChondrActive® hydrolysed cartilage powder, which provides type 2 collagen. There are many types of collagen, but type 2 is found specifically in cartilage. In addition to ChondrActive®, there is also UC-II® cartilage powder, which also provides type 2 collagen and contains an undenatured form of type 2 collagen.
The daily dose also contains well-known ingredients such as MSM (methylsulphonylmethane), an organic form of sulphur, eggshell membrane powder and hyaluronic acid.
The herbal active ingredient Boswellia serrata extract (Indian frankincense tree) has been included in the formula, which contains 40 mg of boswellic acid per day.
Of course, vitamins such as vitamin C, vitamin D and the special K2Vital® form of vitamin K2, an all-trans K2-MK7 form, are also included.1
Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of healthy bones and the normal absorption/utilisation of calcium and phosphorus.
Vitamin C contributes to the normal formation of collagen and, through this, to the maintenance of normal cartilage condition and function.
Of the minerals, manganese is included in the capsules. Manganese contributes to the normal formation of connective tissue and the maintenance of normal bone structure.
